Our Commitment to Zero Accidents and Safety Excellence

At Perma-Fix, we relentlessly prioritize safety, making it the cornerstone of every action we take. Safety is the very fabric of our company, woven into every operation and decision we make, now and for all the years to come. Our commitment to an uncompromising safety culture is steadfast and enduring, ensuring that every individual returns home safe and sound.

A Culture of Responsibility

Every employee, subcontractor, vendor, and partner of Perma-Fix is empowered to take personal responsibility for safety. We believe that each person engaged in company activities has a crucial role to play in preventing injuries and illness—not just for themselves but also for their colleagues, the public, and the environment. This collective commitment is essential in fostering a workplace culture where safety is paramount. Safety is celebrated and always at the forefront no matter what the task.

Regulation and Compliance

Our safety program adheres to stringent federal and state regulations, which include requirements set forth by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). By aligning our practices with these requirements, we ensure that our operations meet the highest levels of health and safety excellence.

We consistently implement work practices and engineering controls that are necessary for performing all activities safely. This includes site control measures, medical surveillance, exposure monitoring, and emergency planning. We also mandate the use of minimum acceptable personnel protective equipment (PPE) to safeguard our employees in all work environments.

Best Management Practices

Our best management practices protect our employees and visitors from unwanted exposure to radiation, toxic and hazardous substances, and hazardous site conditions. Our comprehensive approach also addresses potentially hazardous work processes and emergency response procedures. We emphasize the importance of compliance with all contractual, state, and federal health and safety regulations, and communicate with all staff that these provisions are mandatory.

Project-Specific Safety Measures

We understand that safety measures need to be evaluated and tailored to each project and work task based on the specific risks involved. This analysis allows us to effectively mitigate potential hazards and uphold our commitment to safety across diverse operational situations.

Continuous Improvement

Our safety expectation is not static; it is a continuous action that promotes a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices. We actively seek feedback and innovate our processes to enhance our safety culture further. By fostering an environment of open communication and ongoing education, we empower our workforce to prioritize safety at every level.

The comprehensive framework in our Environmental Health and Safety (ESH) program is designed to ensure the health and safety of all individuals involved in and on our projects, facilities, and supporting offices, as well as to protect the communities and environments in which we operate. To continuously maintain a high safety metrics, we implement the following goals and policy:

  • Maintain ISO 9001 certification for facilities and field projects, ensuring quality management across all operations
  • Maintain Department of Energy (DOE) approval of our Health and Safety and Quality Assurance programs at each facility through independent audits conducted by the DOE Consolidated Audit Program
  • Ensure quality incident management and cause analysis, which is vital for preventing incidents and enhancing our safety protocols
