Comprehensive Waste Treatment Capabilities

Perma-Fix of Florida

1940 N.W. 67th Place, Gainesville, FL - (352) 373-6066

Perma-Fix of Florida (PFF) is licensed and permitted by the State of Florida to treat a variety of mixed characteristics and listed waste soils, liquids, sludge, and debris to meet Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) standards and/or other disposal objectives. PFF is permitted and licensed for bulking and other pretreatment of mixed wastes. PFF receives and processes more than 1,500 containers of non-radioactive, hazardous waste per month. These waste containers consist of industrial hazardous waste, medical and pharmaceutical waste, and municipal waste. Additionally, PFF serves as the primary Research and Development (R&D) Laboratory for Perma-Fix and also maintains its own fleet of trucks and equipment to support waste disposal operations and customer waste pick-ups.

Perma-FAS

PFAS Destruction Technology

perma-fas

Perma-FAS, a groundbreaking per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) destruction technology chemically destroys PFAS contaminants at temperatures below 150°C, producing an organic, non-hazardous effluent. This water-based process achieves a 99.9999% destruction rate on high-concentration liquids, with initial testing showing excellent reduction in solids, sludges, resins, and granulated activated carbon (GAC). The result is a mineralized fluoride effluent that can be easily separated from treated liquids.

Therma-Fix Gen3

Vacuum Thermal Desorption

thermafix vtd

Therma-Fix Gen3 is the culmination decades worth of technological advancements, desorption-specific waste processing experience, and regulatory knowledge. The electrically heated batch oven system has an operating range of up to 1200F under a 29" mercury (Hg) vacuum and uses a tray system to permit discreet segregation of customer waste. Therma-Fix Gen3 heats low-level radioactive waste (LLW) and mixed low-level radioactive waste (MLLW) to remove organics and recollects them as condensate. The vacuum allows lower temperatures to facilitate removal. Remaining solids are tested for LDR compliance and condensate is treated thermally.

Radioactive Waste Water Evaporator

evaporator

Evaporation is a great solution for low level radioactive, non-hazardous waste waters. This technology allows for large volumes to be processed for minimal landfill impact, saving the customer in transportation and disposal costs. PFF's trained staff allows for preliminary or final treatment of the water/residue to ensure LDR compliance on all waste streams. Our evaporator allows significant volume reductions for landfill disposal. Most waste waters can achieve volume reductions greater than 100, turning a 5,000-gallon tanker into a single drum of residue. This treatment option is ideal for the nuclear power Industry, analytical laboratories, research and development (R&D) laboratories, and contaminated water run-off.

Research and Development Laboratory

encon evaporator

Perma-Fix's primary R&D laboratory, located at PFF, offers on-site radiological and chemical analysis for immediate feedback during treatment process development. For analytes beyond the capabilities of our in-house instrumentation, we maintain active service contracts with third-party commercial and university laboratories. By collaborating with waste treatment operations staff across our four treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), we develop solutions that are not only effective but also practical and cost-efficient for our customers.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • RCRA Part B TSDF Permit
  • TSCA Storage/Disposal Approval
  • NELAP Certification
  • County Hazardous Materials
  • Storage License
  • Restricted Rx Destruction License
  • Radioactive Material License
  • Radioactive and Hazardous Waste
  • Transport Permits

Household Hazardous Waste Days

PFF hosts Household Hazardous Waste Days (HHWD) approximately every month at various locations surrounding Gainesville, Orlando, and along the east coast of Florida. These events are open to the public and offer two types of services: "Roundup" and "Shed Cleanout."

Roundup

This event allows community members to drive to a designated location where Perma-Fix personnel collects household hazardous waste directly from their vehicles. The waste is then safely transported and properly disposed of at our facility.

Shed Cleanout

For this service, Perma-Fix personnel collect pre-packaged, ready-to-go household hazardous waste directly from designated drop-off locations. We ensure that all collected waste is safely transported and properly disposed of at our facility, providing a hassle-free and responsible solution for household hazardous waste. These events provide an excellent opportunity for residents to safely dispose of items that cannot be handled through regular residential waste collection. The types of waste accepted during these events include:

  • Paint
  • Pesticides
  • Batteries
  • Corrosives, acids, and bases
  • Latex paint
  • Fluorescents
  • Mercury
  • PCB
  • Isocyanates
  • Flares
  • Oxidizers
  • Antifreeze
  • Amines
  • Chlorinated solvents
  • Aerosols
  • Dioxin related household materials

NQA-1 Certification

NQA-1 Compliant

PFF is compliant with the standards set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in their Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA) program. NQA-1 emphasizes the importance of each individual's role in our operations, and, by applying these standards, we can efficiently manage the processing and disposition of any radioactive materials.
