Overview: Deactivation and decommissioning of two structures at the TA-46 site at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The structures included a 29,069 square foot laboratory and office and an attached 140 square foot storage structure.

Scope included abatement, remediation, demolition, and site restoration activities, including pre-mobilization submittals and training; initial site mobilization; universal waste and other regulated material removal and packaging; asbestos abatement, transport, and disposal; low-level radioactive waste removal and packaging; mixed low-level radioactive waste removal and packaging; structural demolition, transport, and disposal of resulting waste; backfill and site stabilization/restoration; demobilization; and project closeout.

This project was for the deactivation and decommissioning of two structures at the TA-46 site. The structures included a 29,069 square foot (ft2) laboratory and office and an attached 140 ft2 storage structure (TA-46-0001/0419). Scope included abatement, remediation, demolition, and site restoration activities, including pre-mobilization submittals and training; initial site mobilization; universal waste and other regulated material removal and packaging; asbestos abatement, transport, and disposal; low-level radioactive waste removal and packaging; mixed low-level radioactive waste removal and packaging; structural demolition, transport, and disposal of resulting waste; backfill and site stabilization/restoration; demobilization; and project closeout. Mobilization began on April 15, 2019.

Waste streams for this project included: Construction and demolition debris: 3,841 tons; metal for recycling: 302 tons; ACM: 20 tons; LLW: 21 tons; MLLW: 5.8 tons and unpainted concrete for recycle: 143.6 tons. The project had zero lost workday cases, restricted cases or job transfer cases, other recordable cases, total recordable cases, and no first aid cases.
